I remember when I was at Radiant Sun. That was nursery school.
There were days I would be picked up from school very late, and as a child, I would cry so hard thinking I had been left behind. But then my mom would come and pick me up, and everything would be okay.
I remember there was no birthday that was not celebrated.
My first birthday, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, all the way up to my 30th birthday, my mom made sure to celebrate me.
My hair, my clothes, my shoes, my appearance, my mom was very particular about all of it.
I remember there were times she could not take us to the salon to get our hair done, so in the mornings before school, she would park the car in the school parking lot and braid our hair herself inside the car before classes started.
I remember that very well.
And in some of the most difficult moments of my life, my mom was there.
I remember when I had second degree burns on my stomach. All the hospital visits to clean the burns and treat the wounds, my mom stood there through all of it.
When my kidneys got infected, I remember running a very high fever. It was a terrible situation. My mom would not sleep through the night. She would wrap me in cold towels just to help bring my temperature down.
Even very recently, after my fibroid surgery last year in February, I could not clean myself properly. I could not shower because I was healing and in so much pain.
My mom, at her age now, would clean me up every morning and evening. She would help clean my body, clean the wound, and dress it carefully.
My schools, my academics, my personal life, my interests, so much of it has my mother’s hand behind it.
My mom took me to Radiant Sun. She found the school and took me there.
She found Morning Star School at Cantonments and took us there too.
The quality of my life now, my mom has been instrumental in it all.
Even when she did not fully understand some of my decisions, she still supported me.
Especially when I decided to change my career from humanities to technology, my mom stood behind me completely.
I remember when I was writing my professional exams, my mom and I would stay up very late into the night. Sometimes she would stay awake with me, and even when she was tired, she would sleep close to me so I would not feel alone while studying.
I have a roof over my head because of my mother.
I have peace in where I stay, how I stay, and how I live because of my mother.
My mom introduced me to Christianity. It was not a pastor or a man of God. The first person who taught me about the love of God and Jesus Christ was my mother.
I remember growing up and waking up in the morning while still lying in bed, only to see my mom standing quietly at my bedroom door just staring at me.
It used to freak me out so much back then.
But later, she told me she only wanted to make sure her baby was still breathing.
My 30th birthday this year was the best birthday I have ever had.
My mom organized a surprise party for me at home with close family and loved ones. Truly, it was the best birthday celebration of my life.
I cannot begin to fully testify about the works of Diana, but happy Mother’s Day, Mommy.
This piece is dedicated to you.
Thank you for being there every step of the way.
God bless you so much.
